Member of EYP-Ukraine to Vice-Preside at the Belgian National Selection 2011
As other National Committees of the EYP EYP-Belgium holds it’s National Selection every year, this time the session took place on March 1-4. The great honor for EYP-Ukraine is the fact that Kristina Chelmakina, the Board Member of EYP-Ukraine was a Vice-President of the session.
Belgium! First things you may think of are chocolates and beer, but real EYP member thinks of many international institutions, Brussels and, of course, the patron of the EYP – the European Parliament!
So, at the very beginning of the session all armed with warm jackets young Belgians came to Brussels to experience the great spirit of EYP. Over 100 participants were divided into 8 committees but just for 1 day as the NS works a little different in Belgium.
Participants came in school delegations from all the parts of the country, 12 schools in total. For one day they split up in committees and discussed the new approaches for the ecological summit in Durban in 2011 after a compromise in Cancun. Delegates were proposed to use 3 types of auxiliary materials: graphics, pictures, and quotes of politicians and experts concerning the topic. Each committee was to come up with 3 statements or questions about the summit in Durban as on the last day of the General Assembly 2 members of European Parliament came for the round of open debate with the youngsters.
The two following days were dedicated to GA, which was held at the European Parliament, so every single one could feel the inspiration even from the atmosphere! The Session ended with efficient debate with Ivo Belet and Dirk Sterckx. The two MEPs gave a deeper insight on the problem of Europe’s fast reaction towards climate change in the world and its’ best approaches.
