1st Chernihiv Regional Session of EYP-Ukraine
September 27, 2011
On 24-28 August the city of Chernihiv hosted a Regional Session of European Youth Parliament. Without any doubts, at the moment the Regional Session is the most successful project of EYP-Ukraine held this year, as both academic and entertaining sides of the session were at a truly high level. The Regional Session attracted almost 100 young and active participants, including a significant amount of foreign delegates and truly international Officials team. As a result, 13 European countries had their participants in Chernihiv.
Due to hard work of the Organising team led by the head-organisers of the session Anna Suprunenko and Natalia Tarasevych, the 1-st Chernihiv Regional Session opened the city of Chernihiv, known as “the Northern capital of Ukraine”, as an EYP-city with good opportunities of hosting another sessions, conferences, and trainings. Holding the session in Chernihiv became possible because of the support of Mayor Alexander Sokolov and sponsorship of the charitable foundation “The Open Hearts of Ukraine”, SCM financial group, institutions of local self-government, and private businesses.
The session was presided by Mr. Anthony Abladey-Abladey (UK), who conducted the session with help of Vice-Presidents Ms. Oksana Korchak (Ukraine) and Magdalena Pietras (Poland). The participants of the session were divided into 8 committees involved into discussion of such problematic and urgent problems of Europe as spreading of AIDS among youth, consequences of nuclear accident at Fukushima (Japan), high unemployment among young Europeans, need of gender education of children etc. All proposed ideas and motions for resolutions passed the procedures of open debates and voting during General Assembly that was held in the building of Chernihiv City Council. 6 motions for resolutions passed and were confirmed by the participants.
Speaking about the entertaining side of the session, it should be mentioned that the event was really unique in terms of experiments and innovations implemented into team building process. For instance, the system of so-called “challenges” encouraged all committees to get involved into friendly competitions with each other. Each “challenge” consisted of bilateral funny tasks given from one committee to another. The accomplishment of each task was praised by giving points to successful committee that were collected during the whole session. The work of Press team was not typical as well. Led by the Editor Evheniia Melekhovets (Ukraine), journalists did not work with committees directly; they just monitored all session activities and provided participants with additional “challenges”, photo and video materials, and daily session newspaper.
It is also worth mentioning that the greatest peculiarity of the 1-st Chernihiv Session is that the delegates spent the first day of general and committee team building in a tent city situated out of the city of Chernihiv. Such challenging conditions helped the participants to enhance their teamwork skills and created the atmosphere of friendly co-operation that lasted for all days of hard committee work and public defending of motions for resolutions.
EYP-Ukraine warmly greets all participants and organisers of the 1-st Chernihiv Regional Session and expresses gratitude to everybody who made their contribution into the organizing process! Your efforts and hard and inspirational work made this session happen!
