Europe Days in Kyiv and Mykolayiv – EYP-Ukraine is traditionally in charge of volunteers!
'European Youth Parliament – Ukraine' was actively involved in organising the celebration of Europe Day in Ukraine. On May 14th the celebration of Europe Day, organised by the Delegation of the EU in Ukraine, took place in Mykolaiv. On May 21st the celebration of Europe Days organised by Kyiv City Administration took place in Kyiv. Anna Lachykhina, member of EYP-Ukraine was a Coordinator of volunteers for Europe Days in Ukraine.
Selection procedure of volunteers was usual. First and most important stage was submission of applications by candidates to Coordinator of volunteers. Application forms were available on websites of the EU Delegation, NGOs, and other informational sources. As a results, 97 volunteers had been selected for Mykolaiv and 120 volunteers for Kyiv. Total of 97 applications had been received for Mykolaiv and 356 for Kyiv. Despite the fact that we didn't receive enough applications for Mykolaiv, enthusiastic students from Black Sea National Petro Mohyla Academy and from National Shipbuilding University, who came to the volunteers’ training on May 13th – the day before celebration – joined our volunteers’ team and by this completed the team.
In both cities, Kyiv and Mykolaiv, EYP-Ukraine had been presented along with the EU member-states and European organisations. On May 21st EYP members also had an opportunity to meet the Member of the European Parliament Paweł Zalewski, who was patroning European Parade in Kyiv.
Average age of volunteers was from 17 to 23, however there were special cases in each city. In Mykolaiv, for example, among those who were willing to participate in Europe Days as volunteer were youngsters aged 14-16, also people aged 25-35, and 50.
In total, 240 volunteers have participated in the event in both cities this year. All of them demonstrated outstanding communicatiion skills as well as their creativity organising interactive activities for the visitors. They also had a chance to use their knowledge of foreign languages and gain unforgettable impressions and experience. Thanks to these young people full of enthusiasm atmosphere of unity and understanding reigned during Europe Days!
