EYP-Ukraine Supported the Idea of Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation

April 2, 2007

For three days the city that is situated not far from the Ukrainian border became the stage for heated discussions and debates of the active youth concerning the Ukraine-EU and Ukraine-NATO relations, adoption of the European Constitution, environmental issues etc. Although our neighbors had advantage in numbers (only one person out of seven representing our country in each of the five committees), the efforts were joined by all to discuss and approve the solid resolutions on the important issues at the General Assembly.

Worth mentioning is the high level of organization of this common session and the hospitality of the Polish side that allowed Ukrainians to really make themselves at home. It is not by accident that one of the EYP-Ukraine delegates, Pavlo Babenko, said the following: “Three days is just too short for young people, but even in such a short time we managed to become good friends and do some productive work.”

Full of positive impressions was also another Ukrainian delegate, Iryna Lysenko, who made the following comment: “The Mini-Session of the European Youth Parliament in Rzeszow was a real experience for me. Although I had visited Poland before, it was EYP that helped me better understand the Polish culture and to really get the feel of the Polish people. It was my first time taking part, so everything came down on me as somewhat surprising and with a certain doze of adrenaline. I was really impressed by the excellent organization of the event and the organizers themselves, and with that in mind I would like to cordially thank Beata, Wojtek, Gabrysia, Ania, Zosia, Wojtek and other people who took care of us, the Ukrainian delegates. Best thing about this trip? My best memory is about getting to know the whole bunch of the Polish young people. I am confident that this meeting is just the beginning of our long-lasting friendship.”

Olena Sadoma, a high school student, also had her first time taking part in such an event. “Since my childhood I have wanted to be engaged in politics. This mini-session already now gave me a chance to try myself out representing our country’s interests. Intense debates brought up not only the issues of the countries’ cooperation, but also the enthusiasm of the today’s young people on questions of international relations.”

Generally speaking, organizing such an event gave an opportunity to the young people from both countries to exchange personal experiences, and also to understand the importance of the cooperation among European nations, the cultures of which do share so much in common.
