The Ukrainian EYP Delegation was brought to Lapland!
January 29, 2008
From the very first day of the session a very high level of international organisation and
the crystal
punctuality of the Swedes became obvious to everyone around. All the delegates of the snowy town were met and accommodated in a four-star hotel. As for the Opening Ceremony, it took place in the central hall of Ume Congress, where the honourable guests from the European Commission had a discussion with young parliamentarians for two hours. They touched such questions as getting education in EU, international relations, global changes in climate, and the Ukraine matter which according to Margo Valstrom should establish closer links with EU, as well as Norway.
The delegates worked in committees, debating upon a certain subject like the future of Bologna system and availability of education in Europe, the relations between EU and Russia and Euro circulation. By the way, any arguments were expressed both in English and French since nearly every Swedish pupil speaks French. Nonetheless, apart from general official procedures and working hard at resolutions, there was teambuilding and delegations’ presentations. Once more, Ukrainians only benefitted on account of their hot dancing which made the participants even though terribly tired of their journey and graft rise to their feet.
The whole occasion resulted in General Assembly during which each committee defended its own three-day progress. Six out of nine resolutions, after numerous «in favour» and essential inquiries got the majority of votes to be passed and thus were taken to the European Parliament as European Youth initiative.
