October 20, 2011
The 68th International Session of the European Youth Parliament was hosted by the beautiful historical city of Zagreb in Croatia. The Session lasted for 10 unforgettable days from September 30th till October 9th, 2011. Andrei Gyrych, Anna Lachykhina, Ievgenii Manko, Vitalii Ovsiiuk, and Roksolana Pidlasa, members of EYP – Ukraine, attended the Session as delegates.
They were discussing important political, cultural, and economical issues of Europe within different committees: Committee on International Affairs, Committee on Crisis Management, Committee on Culture and Education, and Committee on Development. Ukraine also had its representative in the Officials team of the Session -Dmytro Honcharenko, Board member of EYP – Ukraine. Delegations from more than 30 European countries were present at the Session and “diversity in unity” spirit could be felt during those 10 days in welcoming Croatia. Participants spent the first two days of the Session in a little town of Topusko in a Spa resort doing teambuilding. So the delegates and officials had a great opportunity to experience sun & beach atmosphere in Croatia while working. The rest of the Session - three days of Committee Work and two days of General Assembly - were spent in the capital of Croatia,
Zagreb. Apart from hard work, delegates and officials experienced traditional Eurovillage and Euroconcert, during which everyone could taste different cuisines, national drinks, observe national costumes and watch performances prepared by representatives of different countries. Atmosphere of fun and friendship was provided for 100%. After three days of hard committee work there was a movie night organised for delegates in the cinema with famous movies from Zagreb film festivals presented. The movie night required a dress code which meant everyone dressed up as their favourite movie character. The most exciting part of that evening was Zoskar Award – Zagreb Oskar award for the best dress-up!
In order to experience true intercultural exchange an X-Change Café was organised, where delegates had an opportunity to learn more about Croatia and socialize with Croatian high school students. The day before GA a city tour around Zagreb was held so participants of the Session could enjoy Zagreb sightseeing, walking in historical places, taking pictures, and integrate into everydaylife of the city while sipping a coffee in one of the numerous street cafes.
General Assembly, that was held in the City Hall of Zagreb, lasted for 2 days during which resolutions of 15 committees were presented and debated.
Zagreb International Session was a great place not only to learn, but also to make friends, so farewell party on the last day of the Session was a perfect opportunity to see each other again, say words of appreciation and good bye before everyone had to leave to their regular lives in their home countries.
